Hedera Developer Playground
The Hedera Developer Playground is an interactive, browser-based coding environment built into the Hedera Developer Portal. Hashgraph commissioned Kabila to design, develop, and maintain this open-source tool, making Hedera development accessible to everyone.
Visit portal.hedera.com/playground to start writing and executing code immediately β no setup required.
The Problem We Solved
Getting started with Hedera development traditionally required complex local setups: installing SDKs, configuring environments, managing testnet accounts, and navigating documentation across multiple sources. This friction slowed down developer onboarding and experimentation.
The Solution
The Playground eliminates all setup friction by providing a complete development environment in the browser. Developers can write, execute, and share code directly, with access to all major Hedera services.
Key Features
- No setup required β Write and run code instantly in your browser
- Multiple languages β Supports Java and JavaScript, with more coming in the future
- Full Hedera access β Interact with the Hedera Consensus Service, Token Service, Smart Contract Service (EVM), and more
- Built-in testnet faucet β Get testnet HBAR automatically for testing
- Code sharing β Share your code and flows with others
- Composable flows β Create individual code snippets or combine them into complex multi-step flows
What You Can Do
- Create and manage Hedera accounts
- Create and transfer tokens (fungible and non-fungible)
- Deploy and interact with smart contracts
- Submit messages to the Consensus Service
- Execute scheduled transactions

Who Is It For?
Web2 Developers
If you're new to Web3, the Playground is the perfect gateway. It uses familiar languages (Java and JavaScript) and removes the complexity of local blockchain development. You can experiment with Hedera's features and learn Web3 concepts interactively.
Hedera & Web3 Developers
For experienced developers, the Playground speeds up prototyping and iteration. Test new ideas in minutes without spinning up a local development environment.
Developed & Maintained by Kabila
Hashgraph entrusted Kabila with the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the Developer Playground. Kabila continuously adds new features, language support, and workflows to improve the developer experience as part of this engagement.
Kabila is responsible for the engineering and maintenance of the Playground under its engagement with Hashgraph. More languages, features, and capabilities are being added continuously.
