Build Smart Contracts on Hedera With Ease: Meet the Hedera Contract Builder
Web3 is full of possibilities, but for developers coming from Web2, getting started can be overwhelming. At Kabila, we’re all about removing friction so creators and builders can focus on what they do best: creating.
That’s why we’re proud to have collaborated with Hashgraph (Hashgraph leads product innovation, technical development, and marketing initiatives geared at growing the Hedera ecosystem) on a new application: the Hedera Contract Builder.
The Hedera Contract Builder is a new browser-based tool that lets you write, deploy, verify, and test smart contracts on Hedera without downloads, setups, or configuration.
More Than an Onboarding Tool
In January, Hashgraph launched the Hedera Developer Playground, on which we worked together as well. That first phase introduced easy access to Hedera’s core services: HTS, HCS, accounts, scheduled transactions, and more, using Java and JavaScript, which are familiar coding languages to most Web2 developers.
We now added the next step: smart contracts.
The Hedera Contract Builder brings smart contract exploration and development to your browser. Whether you’re new to Web3 or an experienced developer looking to increase your productivity, you can go from idea to deployed smart contract in minutes!
Why EVM-Compatibility Matters
Even though Hedera offers powerful native services, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) remains the industry standard for smart contracts. Most tooling, standards (like ERC-20 and ERC-721), and developer knowledge center around it.
That’s why Hedera developed the Hedera Smart Contract Service (HSCS), bringing EVM compatibility to the network while offering:
- Faster finality
- Higher throughput
- Predictable, low fees
- A carbon-negative infrastructure
The Hedera Contract Builder builds on this foundation by making EVM smart contract development way more accessible.
What Makes the Contract Builder Special?
Here’s what sets this application apart:
- Zero Setup, all Browser-Based
No local toolchains. No CLI configs. Just start building.
- Familiar Standards and Templates
ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 templates are included, plus Hedera-native examples to help you hit the ground running.
- Instant Testnet Access
Deploy to Hedera’s testnet in seconds and verify behavior immediately.
- Learn by Doing
Ideal for Web2 developers curious about Web3. The intuitive interface, guided examples, and built-in templates make experimentation easy.
- Quick Prototyping for Hedera Devs
Already building on Hedera? This tool saves you hours by letting you write, test, and iterate without setting up a full local environment.
What This Means
The Contract Builder is a perfect tool for developers to explore the power of Hedera:
- Smooth Onboarding
- Skip Hardhat and Truffle (especially sweet for Web2 developers)
- Test contracts instantly in a browser-based IDE.
- Safe Experimentation
- Benchmark fees and runtime behavior on Hedera’s testnet before committing.

Unlocking the Next Wave of Builders
At Kabila, we’re committed to growing the Hedera ecosystem by lowering barriers for developers and creators entering Web3.
Tools like the Contract Builder are key to that mission. The easier it is to experiment and launch, the more innovation gets unlocked.
So whether you’re a curious Web2 dev or a Web3 veteran looking for speed and simplicity- this is the place to start!
No downloads. No setup. Just click, build, and deploy.
We’re looking forward to working on more amazing projects with the Hashgraph team in the future!

We’re proud to announce that Kabila has joined the Decentralized Recovery (DeRec) Alliance, an initiative that will significantly impact the future of Web3. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to empower creators and communities on Hedera, as we believe that the DeRec Alliance's efforts in developing a decentralized safety net for Web3 will improve its safety, accessibility, and usability. By joining this alliance, we aim to contribute to these developments and make Web3 more accessible to everyone!

The Playground is an open-source project developed by Hashgraph and Kabila. It is a browser-based application that developers can use to learn and experiment on the Hedera testnet. The Playground enables writing, executing, and sharing Java and Javascript code directly in the browser, so there’s no longer a need for complex local setups. And since the application uses familiar languages, it caters to developers of all experience levels, from seasoned Hedera Developers to Web2 developers just starting to learn Web3.
